A certain operating system. Many MPGs will require the computer to have Microsoft Windows 98 or a later version.
Pentium II computer or a higher processor.
A certain amount of memory, for example 32 MB.
A certain amount of hard disk space.
A color display. Different games will require different color requirements.
Internet access. For many games, a broadband connection is not required, but it will maximize the performance of the game.
A certain internet explorer, for example Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or higher.
A mouse.
A sound card.
Some games may require a joystick or other play equipment.

Machine Platform and MPG Players

Different multiplayer games are designed for different platforms. Before downloading or playing any multiplayer game, you will need to ensure that the game can be used on the type of platform you have (for example, Windows, Mac or Linux). Many games have been designed so that you can use them on different platforms, but you will need to ensure that you download the version that has been designed for use in the type of platform on your computer.

Console-based Games and Multiplayer Gaming

Many console-based games are also now available as multiplayer games through an internet or LAN connection. Playstation 2, Xbox and GameCube all now are able to be played online, meaning that they can be played as multiplayer versions. In order to play console games through an internet connection, you may need a starter kit. This kit may include a headset, a subscription, a network adaptor and cable. Some consoles already have the necessary equipment to link it up to the internet. Connecting to Xbox live will generally require a fee to be paid.
