Rock'em, Sock'em: Top PC Fighting Games

Fighting games for the PC are very popular. The origins of fighting games can be traced back to the arcade games of the 1960s and 1970s. When computer became more popular and available to more people, many of these arcade fighting games were altered so that they could be played on a PC.

Evolution of Fighting Games

Now, there are many new PC fighting games, allowing a whole new generation to experience the thrill and excitement of playing fighting games. The internet has also changed fighting games and added the extra bonus of allowing players to play against other people through an online connection.

Elements of Fighting Games

Fighting games are games where players control a character and fight against another character. Usually, they have a wide range of characters which you can choose from (some of which may be locked until the player gains enough points to unlock them). Most fighting games have little or no plot. There is no adventure as such, just a fight against characters. The player's goals are simply to beat their opponent. The games can be played by single players or against opponents (either in the same area or through an internet connection).

To play computer fighting games, PCs must be used. You will need to check that you have all the requirements to play the game you wish to play. Most new PC fighting games will require a later version of Windows, a certain color requirement and a sound card. However, older versions of fighting games can still be found which may have fewer requirements than the newer fighting games for the PC.

The topic of whether fighting games are suitable for children is a fairly controversial one. Some people suggest that no fighting games are suitable for children as they promote violence. Many fighting games have a rating that allows them to be played only by people over a certain age. There are some games (for example karate games) that are rated inappropriate for a lower age. It is up to each parent to decide whether they think it is okay for children to be playing fighting games.

Fighting games appeal to that desire within us to fight someone. In these times, hopefully most of us rarely get an opportunity to actually fight someone. Fighting games for the PC allow people to fight others without the risk of getting hurt or without needing to hurt another person. For this reason, they are usually more popular with men, who seem to have more of that desire to fight than women.
