The end of 2005 saw the release of the Xbox 360 - the first of the seventh generation of video game consoles. Computer Games - GenresThe most common genres in computer games today include plat former, adventure, role-playing game (RPG), first person shooter (FPS), third person shooter, sports, racing, shoot 'em ups, fighting, action, puzzle, simulation, turn-based games, and real time strategy (RTS). Most games nowadays are a combination of two or more genres (e.g action/RPG). The increase in the popularity of online gaming has also resulted in sub-genres being formed, such as massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG).First-person shooter (FPS) is a genre of computer games, which is characterized by an on-screen view that simulates the in-game character's point of view. Notable examples of the genre include Doom, Quake, Half-Life, and Halo. The modern FPS genre emerged during the early 1990s, at the point when home computers became sufficiently powerful to draw basic 3D graphics in real-time. Id Software's Wolfenstein 3D and Doom are widely considered to be the breakthrough games of the genre. The latter, in particular, defined the genre so emphatically that FPS games were commonly referred to as "Doom clones" for a significant period after its release. New PC games are developing fast in all areas. As computers get faster in the future, best PC games will have better graphics, more realistic details, shorter load times, and fewer glitches. PC game reviews by users and players are driving the interest in development of new games.
